Why are so many people turning down offers?

Surely people cannot be turning down offers at the moment? In these austere times when jobs are hard to come by and there are so many people out of work you may be surprised to learn that so many companies are finding their offers of employment declined or, even worse, people are accepting roles but then dropping out before or shortly after their start date.
The most common reasons we found are as follows:-
1. Employers are making uncompetitive offers.
2. Everyone is offering the same few individuals.
3. Many people are applying for jobs without really being serious.

What can be done to make sure your offer is accepted?
1. Make sure you only deal with candidates who want the job.
2. Make sure you make a realistic offer.*
3. Make sure your recruitment consultant helps you intermediate through the offer process.
4. Never make an offer which you don’t already know will be accepted.
 *This means checking your offer is realistic and checking the candidate is likely to accept.
