How can you load the odds in your favour when seeking to recruit top quality candidates?

1. Make the role desirable.
2. Try to ensure that only the best people get the opportunity to meet you. Don’t waste your valuable time seeing no hopers as it will damage your reputation and the attractiveness of the role to those you want to attract.
3. Try to ensure you have a clear brief which enables head  hunters to sell the role.
4. Be prepared to pay top end salaries.  All jobs have a real or notional salary band (even Real Madrid has limits to how much it wishes to pay a player).  However, investing in high quality candidates rather than saving costs on lesser, cheaper candidates can give you competitive advantage when times are tough. You need people who will rise to the challenge, not shrink from it when the going gets tough.
5. Focus on transferable qualities - relationships, proven track record, reputation.

As the stock market begins to rise they are trying to get first mover advantage by bringing on board outstanding candidates who can quickly add value rather than accept lesser candidates who may need to learn on the job.
